APC STILL RECEIVING HIGH PROFILE DECAMPEES

Recent losses by leading Nigerian party APC do not seem to deter more high profile politicians from joining the party. Merely days after the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered judgments in favour of their major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party in key states; more decampees from other parties have trooped into the APC, renewing hope in disoriented party faithfuls.
On Saturday 13th February, Deputy National chairman of the APC, Segun Oni led National Officers of the APC to receive former governorship candidate in Enugu State, Chief Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu at his ward in Agbugoeze Ward in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the party’s National Chairman Chief John Odigie Oyegun received top politicians from the opposition Peoples Democratic party (PDP) and its extension, the Labour Party (LP) into the APC in a ceremony at the Atu Playground in Calabar, Cross River State.
Top ranking politicians received at Calabar include former Leader of the Senate, Victor Ndoma-Egba, Senator Bassey Otu, Prince Jedy Agba, Ntufam Sandy Onor, Ambassador Sony Abang, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, Dr. Emmanuel Nsan, Sir Wilfred Inah, Mrs. Nela-Andem Rabana and Third Republic governor of the state, and Mr. Clement Ebri, who, prior to that time had been a member in no political party, but an out-spoken backer of President Muhammdu Buhari’s election ambition.
APC’s famous election victory in last year’s presidential and governorship elections added to sustained and intensive media propaganda campaigns may have emboldened their members and weakened opponents, because thousands of political opponents began to migrate over to the ruling party. As governorship election lawsuits raged on, the APC media wing waged war on everything PDP; going a long way to increase confidence in their success in the court cases. They encouraged doubtful members of their control of the arms of Government including the Judiciary.
As the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the PDP in Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and other states – beginning with their loss at the late Bayelsa governorship elections; the loudmouthed APC leadership has found it hard to keep members convinced of their control of the Government. It is therefore interesting that people – high profile members among – are joining what suddenly became a losing party.
